There are usually also food departments at the very bottom of large department stores, which have both ready-to-eat meals and raw food.

What is sold?
Basically like in our country.
Typical food items:
- Meat (beef, pork, chicken)
- Seafood (fish, sashimi, processed seafood, sushi)
- Vegetables, fruits, mushrooms
- Dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, butter
- Soy products: tofu, miso, soy sauce, natto
- Snacks, sweets (Japanese & international)
- Ready-made meals: salads, yakitori, fried food
- Rice, bread, noodles, sauces
Fruits & vegetables are usually more expensive, but of very good quality.
Dairy products are also rather expensive because they are more western.
Alcohol is sold, usually also household necessities and cleaning supplies.
Opening hours & payment
Usually close around 9pm
The cashier takes the purchases out of the basket and puts them back in after scanning.
Discounts on lunch from 2pm and on other ready-to-eat meals from 7pm.
Often also offers for overripe vegetables and fruit.
There are automatic shopping bags, but they usually cost a few yen.
Mostly cash payment, sometimes also card; do not give money directly to the cashier, but put it in the designated dish.
Carry purchases to a separate table and pack them there.
