These are spicy, kernel-shaped rice crackers. Kaki no tane are often nibbled on like chips or trail mix. They also go well with beer or tea. The most common are spicy varieties, which are refined with chili or wasabi. However, there are also Kaki no tane with ume and even chocolate flavors. These are much rarer, however – I haven’t come across them very often.

Waaa, die habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gegessen! Kennengelernt hab ich Kaki no tane durch meinen Exfreund aus Yokohama. Beim nächsten Japanbesuch (hoffentlich nächstes Jahr) muss ich mir einen kleinen Vorrat davon nach Hause mitbringen :-)
