The preparation:

  1. First, the rice needs to be cooked. You can find instructions for this here. How to cook Japanese rice.

  2. After cooking, carefully transfer the rice to a bowl. Ideally, the bowl should be made of bamboo (hangiri) or plastic.

  3. Let the rice cool down until you can touch it with your hand.

  4. Before touching the rice, you need to wet your hand. This will prevent the rice from sticking to your fingers.

  5. Now comes the artistic part. Use your hands to shape small portions of rice into triangles, squares, or balls. Balls are certainly the easiest option for beginners. Alternatively, you can buy special onigiri molds that will make it easier to shape them.

  6. Then, poke a hole in the middle of the rice clump (best with your index finger) and fill the onigiri with your personal filling.

    Onigiri without technique

    If the Onigiri with your hand doesn't work out the way you imagine it, you can also use a mold. However, I recommend that everyone try it out and get better at it, because it's much more exciting and better by hand. Nevertheless, the product can help you. Simply press the rice into the mold, add some filling and you're done!

      Hey ihr Lieben, Ich möchte mir gerne Onigiri für Unterweg machen und habe mir neben eurem Rezept auch diverse andere angeschaut. Nun steht in einigen Rezepten dass der Reis mit Reisessig angereichtert werden soll und in anderen nicht. Wann genau benutzt man in der japanischen Küche Reisessig? Nur für Sushi oder auch für andere Dinge. Vielleicht könnt ihr mich ja aufklären. Vielen lieben Dank Kiara

      Ich finde es sehr gut und ich habe es ausprobiert und es hat sehr gut geklappt und gut geschmeckt
